Description:
As next generation enterprise networks are attempting to alleviate performance bottlenecks across their corporate backbone, Gigabit Ethernet using a variety of cabling media is becoming the ideal technology deployed for server farms and for connectivity across a building or campus backbone. The SuperStack 3 Switch 4950 is ideally suited as a backbone aggregation device in these configurations by offering unparallel levels of media flexibility through support for a combination of Gigabit over Copper and Gigabit over fiber ports in an integrated, high performance, compact and affordable form factor. The media flexibility offered by the Switch 4950 allows customers to provide Gigabit connectivity to the high performance server farm via 12 fixed 10/100/1000 ports, connectivity to the fiber building backbone using 6 fixed 1000BASE-SX ports or connectivity across the campus or the metropolitan area network using 6 fixed GBIC ports which can support a combination of 1000BASE-SX, 1000BASE-LX or long haul Gigabit Ethernet (1000BASE-LH70). The Switch 4950 can also support an optional Switch 4900 expansion module that can provide 4 additional switched Gigabit ports supporting all Gigabit media such as 1000BASE-T, 1000BASE-SX and 1000BASE-LX as well as GBICs. The Switch 4950 supports advanced Layer 2 switching features such as COS/QoS, VLANs, multicast filtering and RMON as well as Layer 3 switching through support for IP unicast routing and hardware based Access Lists.
