The four-port 10/100 megabits per second (Mbps) and the four-port 100 Mbps Fast Ethernet Intelligent Link Interface (ILI) modules for the Nortel Networks Backbone Node (BN) router series provide high-performance, highly available connectivity to support a wide range of applications. The increased bandwidth being deployed in today's local area networks (LANs) drives demand for higher density Ethernet connections. The 10/100 Mbps Fast Ethernet modules offer this density with highest performance. The Fast Ethernet modules operate with the Fast Routing Engine (FRE) FRE4-PPPC processor module, which has been optimized for the BN router's high-speed LAN interfaces. Leveraging new processor technology, the FRE4 along with the 10/100 Fast Ethernet modules provide a six-fold performance increase over other BN FRE modules. They support either 10/100Base-TX autosensing copper or 100Base-FX fiber optic cable standards for flexible connectivity. The FRE4-PPC uses a 266 megahertz (MHz) PPC750 microprocessor and can be configured with local memory options of 32, 64, or 128 MB. BN routers, configured with FRE4 ILIs and running the award-winning BayRS software, provide a high-performance networking solution for today's most demanding networks. This product is designed for BLN/BLN-2/BCN routers.
