Nortel Networks extends its technology leadership in the integration of switching and routing with the introduction of Routing Switch modules for the Accelar 8000 Enterprise Switch platform. The Accelar 8600 series Routing Switch modules are designed for the core of enterprise networks. They offer high-density 10/100/1000 Ethernet ports with wire-speed switching and routing. Metropolitan Area Networking (MAN) is also supported, using Extended Distance (XD) Gigabit Ethernet over distances in excess of 50 km. These Routing Switch modules complement the existing Accelar 8100 series Edge Switch modules, which are designed for enterprise wiring closets. With switch capacity scaling to 256 Gbps and performance scaling to 200 Mpps, Accelar 8600 series Routing Switch modules provide enterprise LANs with the capacity to support the business requirements of the new millenium.
