Designed to back up a single PC server or a small network, Sony's DDS-2 SDT-S7200 drive provides 4GB uncompressed capacity and an 8GB compressed capacity and a sustained data transfer rate of 1.5MB per second with data compression. Plus it is backward compatible with DDS-1 cartridges to protect your investments in previous generation media. The SDT-S7200 features Sony's patented Super Head Cleaner Mechanism, which automatically cleans the read/write heads after every 15 minutes of use to remove contamination - the greatest cause of tape drive failures. In addition, the drive's tape path guides uses rollers, not pins, which cause friction, resulting in less tape wear. Finally, the drive's hyper metal head reads back signals with higher amplitude than conventional heads to deliver even greater reliability.
