Description:
Sony has completely outstripped current DDS performance levels with the SDT-7000, the industry's first quad-speed DDS drive. The SDT-7000 is more than 50% faster than any conventional DDS-2 drive and holds 8 GB compressed data using its on-board DC-LZ data compression capabilities - twice the standard 4 GB uncompressed data that can be stored on a 120 m tape. The SDT-7000 has an unprecedented drum rotational speed of 8, 503 rpm and an outstanding sustained transfer rate of 778 KB/s without compression. Not that this high performance means any compromise on reliability. On the contrary, the SDT-7000 has doubled the average MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) rating to 200, 000 power-on-hours. This has been achieved through further IC integration, while retaining the matured base mechanism. Further more, the Super Head Cleaner is of course equipped to ensure longer usage without errors. Added to this, the drive automatically informs the operator when the media is becoming worn or showing excessive error rates and needs to be replaced. In short, the SDT-7000 offers unparalleled speed and total reliability - an unbeatable combination.
